The cows are long gone! As the decades passed, this 1940's milking barn moved through many functions before we finally revitalized it to a captivating, kicked-back country guest house.

Country Modern style

Warm wood floors and cool plaster walls capture the mood swings of the central Arizona high desert. The color palette evokes the subtleties of the landscape and contrasting temperatures of the climate.

Rustic hand-scraped distressed hickory flooring and many natural wood accents offset the otherwise sleek unadorned contemporary architecture for  "refined country" living.

Original straw bale "hippy shack" on the creek transformed into modern high performance waterfront retreat.
All new windows and a complete synthetic stucco system began the major renovation and update of an "alternative" construction creek-side hideaway that had seen better times.

Home office

This home office supports a small business with occasional client consultations. Set just off the entrance to the home, it admits professional visitors with minimal disturbance to the residential zones.

Combining recycled wood with luxury vinyl plank and 1960's desk, this office is a soothing marriage between old and new.
A wrap-around Formica task surface provides ample space to spread projects out, facilitates sharing of office equipment and eases collaboration between the two workstations. A meeting table and big screen monitor enable consultations with clients to be away from the clutter of the work area. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is hard wearing and easy-rolling for office chairs and dampens acoustic reflections.
Cedar recycled from old utility poles was used for the meeting table and desk panels, and mahogany recovered from old wine barrels was milled into edging to tie the various components together. Inexpensive pine planks, stained to match the cedar, frame a large window overlooking a stress-relieving  koi pond.

"Tree House" snuggles in amongst mature piñon pines. Situated on the top floor, the kitchen and entertainment spaces deliver the ambiance of living in the tree tops.

Rather than bulldoze the land to allow a square house to fit, this irregularly shaped two-story was built from structural insulated panels (SIPs) to showcase select views, enhance privacy and preserve the natural site assets.  The R-42 SIP exterior is extremely energy efficient.

Vertical grain Douglas Fir custom trim and mill-work, and a solid cherry staircase and furniture cocoon the owners within a cozy craftsman that invites art and fancy.
